University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Chancellor Robert Jones plans to step down at the end of the current academic year, the U of I System President Tim Killeen announced Wednesday. Jones became the campus' first Black chancellor in 2016.

Robert Jones, the current Chancellor of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, has announced that he is stepping down from the position. In a Massmail to students, faculty and staff, Jones said he will be leaving the university at the end of this academic year in June of 2025.

Robert Jones has been at the helm for nine years. He is the first African American chancellor for the university.
