The parade’s highest honoree is Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer, a Marine. According to the nonprofit United War Veterans Council, he is recognized for his valor in the Afghanistan War, in which he defied orders and went into a particularly dangerous area to help save American and Afghan troops who had gone missing, and in the Iraq War.

New York City's 105th annual Veterans Day Parade marched up Fifth Avenue in Manhattan on Monday. Organizers with the United War Veterans Council said 20,000 participants from across the U.S, including nearly 300 marching and vehicle units,

Across the area, tributes were held to honor military service for Veterans Day. The biggest was the city’s annual parade which marched along Fifth Avenue in front of thousands of spectators. FOX 5 NY’s Lisa Evers brings us the sights and sounds.
