The union that represents thousands of Philadelphia mass transit system workers has agreed to delay a potential strike, saying progress was being made in ongoing contract talks

Leaders of SEPTA’s largest employee union, Transport Workers Local 234, and the transit agency’s management agreed Thursday to keep negotiating even as the current contract was set to expire early Friday morning,

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority workers decided to continue negotiations on a new labor contract Friday afternoon, averting a strike that had been set for midnight Thursday.

The barganing will resume Friday afternoon, as the union looks for a raise and more security measures on the job.
