R epublican Dave McCormick declared victory over incumbent Democratic Sen. Bob Casey in Pennsylvania’s pivotal Senate race after the Associated Press called the close election Thursday evening, delivering the GOP yet another win after it regained control of the Senate.

Republican Dave McCormick appeared to win a major upset in Pennsylvania, beating three-term incumbent Bob Casey. The victory would give the GOP a key win in the U.S. Senate, where it now holds 53 seats.

Democrats will keep their majority control of the Pennsylvania state House of Representatives next year after holding onto a Johnstown area seat.

Democrats retained control of the chamber 102-101 by holding onto a western Pennsylvania district, giving them just enough votes to keep the speakership and determine the chamber's voting agenda. Republicans' hopes of returning to control the chamber were dashed after two years in the minority.

Democrats maintain control of Pennsylvania House of Representatives with a one-seat margin.
