With Marco Rubio’s nomination for secretary of state by President-Elect Donald Trump, it’s becoming increasingly likely that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will be picking the state’s next senator.

President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday said he will nominate Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida to serve as his attorney general, putting a loyalist in the role of the nation’s top prosecutor.

If Trump selects Rubio as Secretary of State, DeSantis would gain the power to appoint a temporary Senate replacement.
